Parking UZ Gent
A future-oriented parking solution for a growing healthcare campus
UZ Ghent is actively modernising its campus. The new underground parking facility fits perfectly within this ambition: it consolidates the parking needs of patients and visitors into one large, logically organised mobility hub. With a surface area of 90,000 m², it will become one of the largest parking structures on the site.
The car park is being built across three underground levels, carefully integrated into the existing environment. This approach ensures that the ground level remains maximally available for healthcare functions, green areas and pedestrian circulation.
A phased approach for an operational hospital
One of the key challenges of this project is guaranteeing the continuity of hospital operations. For that reason, the construction is carried out in phases, including the step-by-step development of a new entrance complex. Thanks to meticulous planning, all hospital services will remain fully accessible throughout the works.
A collaboration built on expertise
The design and engineering are led by VK Architects + Engineers, whose healthcare expertise ensures an optimal technical and logistical layout. The construction is executed by Cordeel Belgium, CIT Blaton and Wyckaert, experienced partners combining their strengths to safely and efficiently build this complex underground structure.
The three levels are designed with special attention to:
- logical traffic flows,
- safe pedestrian circulation,
- clear wayfinding,
- and seamless connection to the existing hospital infrastructure.
Future campus expansions and evolving mobility needs are also taken into account throughout the design process.
