Cordeel contributes to PanTera’s state-of-the-art Actinium Production Center in Mol

With the symbolic groundbreaking on Thursday, October 2, in Mol, construction of PanTera’s Actinium Production Center (APC) has officially begun. Cordeel is building this groundbreaking project together with Willemen, SPIE, and Imtech within the TM WISICO consortium. As a construction partner, we are particularly proud to contribute to a project that will make a difference worldwide in the fight against cancer.

Cordeel Group and SDM strengthen Imtech with new shareholder structure

Cordeel Group, together with SDM Corporate Finance Group and Imtech’s management, has achieved a strategic capital reinforcement via the Smart Deal platform. This provides Imtech with the necessary resources and a broader shareholder base to accelerate its growth and innovation. With this deal, Cordeel Group remains the reference shareholder, firmly anchoring Imtech’s position as a leading technical installation company within the group. At the same time, external investors join to support Imtech’s further professionalization and strategic strength.

C-biotech and DEME open innovative test labs for accelerated soil remediation using industrial hemp

C-biotech, a specialist in biological soil remediation among other things, and DEME Environmental, an expert in soil cleaning and remediation, are taking an important step in the fight against PFAS contamination. C-biotech, part of the Cordeel Group, is opening an innovative test lab at its site in Temse, where contaminated soil can now be purified ex-situ – that is, outside the original location – using industrial hemp. DEME, in turn, has opened a test lab at its Sedisol center near Charleroi, where the ex-situ technique is being tested on PFAS-contaminated dredged material. With this project, C-biotech and DEME aim to contribute to a structural solution for the remediation of polluted soils.

From contaminated soil to sustainable innovation: how C-biotech is making a difference with hemp and science.

What if you could purify polluted soil with plants, without heavy machinery, without digging up the soil - and with nature's help? C-biotech does exactly that, with a circular approach in which hemp not only purifies soils, but also produces bio-based building materials and sequesters CO₂ - a win-win-win for soil, construction and climate. The research C-biotech conducted prior to this sustainable development was recently submitted as a scientific paper. A first for the group and for Filip Cordeel, who is a co-author in a publication for the first time. But what exactly is behind this scientific article? We talked to Ingmar Nopens, pioneer of the project and a regular member of the C-biotech team. With his background as a bioengineer and professor at Ghent University specialising in model-based design and resource recovery, Ingmar brings unique scientific expertise. This knowledge is perfectly useful today in developing innovative, nature-based remediation techniques.

First of its kind: C-biotech and Trafiroad install Belgium’s first circular and CO₂-negative traffic bollard in Lokeren

After a unique collaboration between eight partners — including UBQ Materials, SGS, delaware and Microsoft — road safety specialist Trafiroad and C-biotech, a subsidiary of Cordeel Group and pioneer in the use of bio-based (construction) materials, have today installed Belgium’s first CO₂-negative diamond-top traffic bollard in Lokeren. This milestone is the result of an innovative production process focused on local manufacturing, job creation, and sustainable technologies. The project fits seamlessly with the vision of both Trafiroad and Cordeel Group, who aim to develop smart, energy-efficient, and low-carbon solutions through innovation.

The Strijdros (Destrier) project, realized by Cordeel Belgium, not only comprises 130 social housing units but also a high-quality communal facility, featuring new premises for the Maison Coopérative Destrier.

Construction started at Brinktoren

On Thursday, March 23, the official start of the construction works for Brinktoren, a 90-meter high tower in Overhoeks, Amsterdam, was celebrated. International Women's Day

Every year on March 8th, we celebrate International Women's Day. Historically, the construction and technology-oriented industries have been male-dominated, but more and more women are making their mark in this field. Women in construction have faced many challenges, including discrimination and the assumption that they are not (physically) capable of doing the job. At Cordeel Group, we believe that female presence is essential for creating a more diverse and inclusive workplace. However, we would like to see a lot more women to join our teams! Construction of new Safran Aircraft Engine Services maintenance facility officially launched

On Tuesday 28 February, the first pillars of a new maintenance facility in the North Zone of Brussels Airport were placed in Steenokkerzeel. Based on a design by Archipelago Architects, Cordeel is building a maintenance facility there for Safran Aircraft Engine Services Brussels, which will maintain aircraft engines there from 2024. The new ultra-modern building fits in with Brussels Airport's ambition to offer its customers the most complete range of aviation services, as well as its expertise in the real estate field and confirms its commitment to sustainable development. C-concrete signs first Flemish Concrete Agreement

Worldwide, construction is mainly done with concrete. It therefore accounts for a significant proportion of total CO2 emissions. For instance, the production of cement alone accounts for as much as 7% of global emissions. However, concrete is 100% recyclable if it is released in a sufficiently pure form during demolition. The production of green and circular concrete is on the rise, but an acceleration is needed. With the Flemish Concrete Agreement, the industry wants to remove administrative and technical obstacles to realise this ambition.

On Monday 12 December 2022, Cordeel will start working on Campus Drie Eiken in Wilrijk, home to 10000 students, researchers and staff. The UAntwerpen campus will be extended with 226 student housing units, a new restaurant and a sports hall. Construction will take two years.

C-energy, part of Cordeel Group, has taken a shareholding in MEAM, a Belgian company with national and international activities in the field of industrial microwave technology. By implementing this technology in industrial processes for heating, drying, sterilisation and pasteurisation, among others, this company is an important link in the further electrification of our industry. Imtech receives the EcoVadis Silver rating

Imtech recently reached a silver rating by EcoVadis for its sustainability efforts. We scored 60 out of 100 possible points, which means that we score equal or higher than 80% of the companies that have been evaluated on EcoVadis. A great result for our continuous work on the four EcoVadis pillars: environment, labor & human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.

On Friday 21 October, the foundation stone of FacThory, a multifunctional building for smart manufacturing companies, was laid at Thor Park in Genk. Thor Park, LRM (Limburgse Reconversie Maatschappij), stad Genk and KU Leuven jointly laid the foundation stone, which was replaced by a 3D-printed version for the occasion.

Zeebrugge Green Logistics commissioned

Zeebrugge Green Logistics, formerly better known as Lingang*, was commissioned on Friday 30 September 2022. The official opening took place on 12 October. This sustainable, state-of-the-art logistics site of over 73,000 m² in the port of Zeebrugge comprises 10 warehouses with 10 loading docks each, a container yard, an office building and spacious parking.

New Living Tomorrow innovation campus has reached its highest point

The construction of the new Living Tomorrow innovation campus in Vilvoorde is entering the next phase: the top (12th) floor is finished, bringing the impressive tower to its maximum height of 49 metres. ‘Vertical construction, with the smallest possible footprint on the ground and as much space for greenery as possible, is the way we will (have to) go in the future,’ Frank Beliën, founder and chairman of the Living Tomorrow Group, tells us.
