Cordeel initiates construction of state-of-the-art logistics complex for Brussels Airport Company

Cordeel is proud to announce that on November 23, the official commencement of construction was initiated for the redevelopment of the Brucargo Central zone, located in the cargo area at Brussels Airport.

The design and build team Cordeel - archipelago, and VK architects + engineers, emerged victorious in late 2022 by presenting a robust design based on a sustainable development strategy for the over 34,000 m² logistics complex and its associated offices. Special attention was given to creating a pleasant working environment for the building's users.

In the realization of the new buildings, modernization, innovation, and sustainability take center stage. By 2025, three new state-of-the-art warehouses will be constructed, totaling an area of 34,200 m², along with adjacent office buildings and a consolidated staff parking area. This project aligns with Brussels Airport's sustainable development strategy, aiming for net-zero CO2 emissions and attaining a BREEAM-Excellent certification. The utilization of space is optimized, with a 30% increase in storage capacity and a 20% expansion of green areas compared to the previous infrastructure on the same plot. The redevelopment also fosters more space, safety, and efficiency for pedestrians and cyclists, creating a more pleasant working environment. The identities of the five future occupants of these new buildings in Brucargo Central have now been revealed.

"I am delighted that we have reached this significant milestone in the redevelopment of Brucargo Central, with the installation of the first foundation piles and the announcement of the 5 partners who will establish themselves here," says Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport Company. "Through the redevelopment of this crucial zone, Brussels Airport is creating additional real estate capacity in the freight and logistics sector to meet market demand and further optimize the area. We are pleased that DSV, Deny Cargo, Hazgo, EV Cargo, and Nippon Express will occupy these future buildings. These partners of Brussels Airport, some of whom have been with us for a long time, are looking to expand their activities and, most importantly, benefit from state-of-the-art infrastructure."
