Construction of new Safran Aircraft Engine Services maintenance facility officially launched
Brussels Airport is in the midst of developing its logistics zone. The northern part of this will soon only accommodate companies active in aircraft maintenance. This includes Safran Aircraft Engine Services Brussels, part of Safran Aircraft Engines, which has been operating at Brussels Airport for over 26 years. To optimally facilitate their activities, they have now started building a state-of-the-art maintenance facility from which they can further develop and modernise their global network for maintenance of the latest generation LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines.
Focus on sustainability
The new site, accounting for a total area of 8500m², will accommodate both offices and industrial zones and will be sustainably developed as an energy-positive complex. In other words, energy production will exceed consumption. To achieve this, maximum use will be made of the most efficient techniques, both in terms of insulation and heating with heat pumps, and in terms of infiltration thanks to grass tiles for the car park. Moreover, the roof will be fitted with solar panels and smart light shafts.
Vertical integration
Besides Cordeel as the contractor, several sister companies will also collaborate on the construction of the new maintenance facility. C-concrete, the in-house precast concrete producer within Cordeel, will supply the beams, columns and external walls. Baeck Cladding will supply the cladding.
Completion is scheduled for early 2024. The site should be fully operational in the first quarter of 2024.
