Concrete works have started at the AZ Jan Portaels construction site in Vilvoorde

At the construction site of the new AZ Jan Portaels hospital in Vilvoorde, an important milestone has been reached: concrete pouring is in full swing. This marks the beginning of an intensive phase in the structural work of the hospital, which is taking shape as a modern and future-oriented healthcare facility.

Solid foundations in the Low Tech section

The floor slabs in the Low Tech section of the new hospital are currently being poured in three carefully planned phases. This approach ensures a smooth and controlled execution of the works. Behind this phase lie some impressive figures:

  • 325 piles installed in the Low Tech section alone
  • 3,500 m² of blinding concrete applied
  • 154 tons of loose reinforcement and 34 tons of mesh for optimal strength
  • 462 m³ of concrete for foundation footings and beams
  • 1,230 m³ of concrete for the foundation slab

In addition, the sewer system has already been fully installed, and the starter reinforcements for the prefabricated walls and columns have been positioned with millimeter precision. Immediately after, the first prefabricated elements were installed. Meanwhile, Tower Crane 1 is operating at full capacity to keep up with the tight schedule.

Also progress in the High Tech section

The High Tech section of the site is also making steady progress. The first piles have almost all been drilled, and excavation work for the foundations has now begun. Remarkably, the reinforcement inspection by the engineering firms was completed without any remarks — a clear recognition of the craftsmanship of our teams.

Building the healthcare of tomorrow, together

With this progress, we are once again taking a major step forward in the realization of the new AZ Jan Portaels hospital. A project that is not only technically advanced but also future-proof. With pride and dedication, we continue to build a healthcare environment that is ready for the challenges of tomorrow.
